A study by Italian scientists that questioned over 1,270 pet owners who own both a cat and a dog, published in the journal PLOS ONE in 2020, proved that the two can easily cohabitate without much conflict.
According to the study, over 64 percent of the cats and dogs living together also played together; 58 percent chased each other; and 41 percent fought. Almost two-thirds of the pets sometimes playfully “ambushed” the other.

About 42.2 percent of owners involved in the study declared that their dog ate in a bowl placed on the ground while their cat ate in a bowl positioned on the top of something, and 20.8 percent in bowls close to one another.
Moreover, cats are more likely to ignore dogs than vice versa, with 42 percent of cats ignoring canines, and 28 percent of dogs shunning cats. Cats were also more likely to attack dogs than vice versa.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.1 million views and 31,100 likes on the platform.
